WinCC van Siemens staat voor de afkorting voor Windows
Control Center. Het systeem is geďntegreerd in het SIMATIC
procesbeheersingssysteem PCS 7 (onder andere de programmeertaal van de PLC's) . De integratie van de

met andere PCS7 componenten.

Architecture
WinCC is based on a concept of a local data engine on the IO server whereby
additional some servers for dedicated tasks can be used (long term logging,
configuration server etc).
Runtime database:
Since version 6 Siemens left the use of a Sybase database to store runtime data.
Now the runtime data is distributed on the master configuration database (MS SQL
server) and several runtime databases on the (IO) server. A WinCC has a standard
on-board historian (SQL server).
An (IO) server within a WinCC network can fulfill the following tasks:
• Connection to the process
• Acquisition of the process values
• Archiving messages and process values
• Providing clients with data from the process
• Providing clients with the configuration data
WinCC can be used to configure client-server systems having several (IO) servers
enabling larger systems to be operated and monitored (multi (IO) server system).
Clients:
Clients can be used for:
• Multi-user systems with one server to configure: Several clients access the
project on a server with process driver connection. In the case of a multi-user
system, it is not necessary to configure the clients because all data is
provided by the server.
• Distributed systems with several servers to configure: Clients can display the
data from different servers with process driver connection. Within a distributed
system, each client has an individual configuration; the necessary server data
is imported on the clients and, if modified, can be automatically updated. The
process data is provided by the servers.
Configuration:
The configuration data is saved in a single database. The configuration database
is created in a project directory. The file assumes the project name as the file
name.
WinCC V 6 Server manages runtime data and configuration data with the Microsoft
SQL Server 2000.
WinCC V6.0 only operates with cyclic archives, as in V5 the runtime data was
stored in sequence archives and cyclic archives in a common database.

Authorization is effected during the installation process with a special
authorization diskette. Alternatively, the authorization can be installed later
by the user with the AuthorsW program.
A distinction is made here between RC licenses (Runtime and Configuration) and
pure RT licenses (only runtime).
The classification of the licenses relates to the maximum number of process tags
and archive tags. Process tags are PLC data points, archive tags are historical
trend tags.
With the authorization RC 1024 PTg 512 Atag, for example, up to 1024 process
tags and 512 archive tags can be configured.
Process tags
The following packages for runtime (RT) and complete systems (RC) are available
according to the size of the project to be realized:
128, 256, 1024, 8K and 64K Process tags
Archive tags
The basic license WinCC (RT, RT/CS) contains 512 free archive tags and any
number of messages possible (messages are alarm configuration records)
The number of archive tags can be extended to 1500, 5000, 30,000 and 80,000
(sp2) tags by means of power packs.
Process tags needed for the WinCC channel "System Info" are License-free. Other
internal tags are counted within the license.
